The Orange Inclusive Preschool is designed to provide developmentally age-appropriate experiences in a safe and nurturing educational environment. The work provided to students should be challenging and engaging that will meet each student’s social and educational needs. These experiences promote the physical, emotional, social and cognitive development within curricular activities of typical and students eligible for special education services. These areas are integrated and implemented through child centered activities. OIP integrates children with disabilities and typical preschoolers serve as role models for one another.
The Orange Inclusive Preschool Program serves children from ages 3-5 years old. Half-day classes are held Monday through Thursday. The teacher/child ratio is two (1 teacher and 1 assistant) up to 16 children. Classes may serve up to eight students who are eligible for special education services. Students eligible for special education services demonstrate delays in one or more of the following areas: speech and language, cognitive, fine motor, gross motor, socialization, adaptive, and/or behavior/social/emotional growth.
Prospective typical peers must first participate in a screening session. Screenings are offered monthly on Fridays throughout the school year. Screenings provide OIP staff and parents’ information about the development of each child in the areas of:
• Academics
• Fine and Gross Motor
• Speech and Language Development
