 OHS Athletics is partnering with "Varsity Coats for Needy Folks" in an effort to collect winter coats for Clevelanders in need.  Free admittance into this weekend's OHS JV and Varsity Basketball games will be offered to anyone who donates a gently worn adult-size winter coat.

Congratulations to BMS  7th grader Daniel Suh who won the 2017 BMS Science Fair with his project exploring the question, "What type of battery lasts longest?" More than 50 Brady Middle School students submitted projects for this year's fair.

Congratulations to the BMS Youth in Government Team which excelled at the Ohio Conference in Columbus last week! Fifty students participated in the three-day conference with 240 sixth thru eighth grade students from all around Ohio. 19 of the the students' 24 bills passed through committee and made it to the House or Senate floor with two bills being signed into law!

The OHS Model UN Team continued its winning streak! Marking 11 years of top honors in a row, the team finished in first place out of 19 schools that participated at the Cleveland Council on World Affairs Autumn Model UN Conference.

In a three-peat performance, the OHS Marching Lion Band and Lionettes returned to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for a live appearance on Fox 8's 'Kickin' It With Kenny.' Kicking off Labor Day weekend, the students performed on the plaza and shared some of the songs from this season's repertoire.

The 2017-18 Orange City School District Calendar is now available for purchase at the Administrative Office Building, 32000 Chagrin Blvd. in Pepper Pike (across the street from Gail Allison Drive). Summer hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-3:30pm (closed from 12-1). Cost of the calendar is $5.

Congratulations to Brady Middle School’s Team Hedgehog Factory on placing sixth out of 87 teams at the Destination Imagination Global Competition in Knoxville, TN held May 24-27, 2017. The team members, comprised of eighth graders Lyla Berns, Abby Thompson, Clara Briskin, Jaden Polster, and Mason Lurie, have competed together since the fourth grade.

What happens when students combine a passion with an innovative learning opportunity? They code video games, design stop motion animation, create 3D drawings, record video guitar lessons, and write a multi-cultural cookbook. They design websites that teach about science, the environment, fitness, airplane construction and ADHD. All this and so much more were part of the Brady Middle School Passion Project.

Congratulations to the four OHS students who were nominated for the 2017 Playhouse Square Dazzle Awards: Junior Autumn Key (Best Supporting Actress), Sophomore Ryan Vincent (Best Supporting Actor), and Senior Camryn Fish and Freshman Jessica Lebowitz (Costume Design)! This marks the first year OHS was invited to compete in the Dazzle Awards Competition which will take place on May 20th at Playhouse Square's Connor Palace.

This is the first year OHS has entered the "We Solve Problems" Essay Contest sponsored by the Gertsburg Law Firm and the Chagrin Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The success of Orange High School Art students has been showcased in both the recent Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition and the Beachwood Art Show. The Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition took place at the Cleveland Institute of Art in February 2017. The Beachwood Art Show is currently on display at the Beachwood Community Center Art Gallery through March 5, 2017.

Six 7th graders and six 8th graders from the Brady Middle School Power of the Pen team competed and performed well in the annual Power of the Pen district competitive writing tournament held at University School recently.

Four Orange High School sophomores were presented awards from the Cleveland Clinic eXpressions™ Language Program for their writing. Samantha Wittenberg earned a Blue Ribbon. Emily Ciuprinskas and Jack Newman both earned Red Ribbons while Brynn Kemelhar earned an Honorable Mention. The students were honored at a ceremony held at the Global Center for Health Innovation in downtown Cleveland where their work will be displayed.

Congratulations to Brady Middle School sixth grader Krish Mehra who will speak at the TEDxKentState event on February 18, 2017. He is the only presenter under 18 years old accepted to this TEDx Talk which includes 20 inspiring speakers discussing its theme of “Rewind, Rethink, React."

Congratulations to Orange High School junior Josh Cramer on earning the highest possible composite score of 36 on the ACT test he took in December 2016. According to the ACT National Office, this achievement is significant and rare. On average, less than one-tenth of one-percent of all test takers earns the top score.

The Orange High School Spring Music Concerts will take place this month. The OHS Choir concert will be on Thursday, April 14, 2016. The OHS Band concert will be on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. The OHS Orchestra concert will be on Thursday, April 21, 2016. All three concerts will be held in the school auditorium at 7 p.m. The community is welcome to attend.

The Orange High School Orchestra, directed by Mrs. Rebecca Ellsworth, and Orange Choir, directed by Mr. Christopher Olsen, had the unique opportunity to perform in Chicago’s famed Field Museum of Natural History on Saturday, March 12, 2016. OHS photography students and their teacher, Ms. Melissa Conrad, joined these musicians as the group demonstrated their artistic skills, while enjoying a culturally rewarding educational experience in touring the Windy City.

Up with People, a global education organization whose mission is to bridge cultural barriers and create global understanding through service and music, brings its 2016 show to Orange High School! Headlining the cast is OHS' own Matt Freed '13. The “show experience” culminates a week of interaction with Orange High School students and volunteer service lending a helping hand to community members. The performance is at 7:30pm TONIGHT (2/26) in the OHS Auditorium.

Orange High School’s Unity in Diversity Club will host its annual Talent Show on Saturday, February 27 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Advanced tickets are $5 each and will be sold the week of the talent show during lunch periods. Tickets also will be available for $6 at the door. (NOTE the new event date of Feb 27th)

The event raised more than $1000 at the kick-off for the annual American Cancer Society/Orange Schools Community Relay for Life event. Congratulations to Orange High School on recently receiving a $6000 grant from bestselling author James Patterson to support its school library. In addition, Scholastic Reading Club will match each dollar of Patterson’s donation with “bonus points” that teachers can use to acquire books and other materials.

Orange Schools participated this past week in an "Hour of Code" as part of a celebration of Computer Science Week. The idea is that computing serves as a foundation in transforming the way a student thinks about the world. Members of the Orange High School Male Minority Leaders and their advisors participated in the 2015 White Ribbon Campaign to end domestic violence. Student leaders spoke in Downtown Cleveland to address the issue and raise awareness of the campaign.

Orange High School '98 grad and NY Times Bestselling Author Jessica Fechtor returned to her Orange roots this week where she shared her story, her writing talents, and her incredible baking skills with OHS students and staff. Her memoir Stir includes many of the favorite recipes she created as part of her healing journey after she nearly died when an aneurysm burst in her brain at age 28. Her story inspired OHS students.

This request is for the years 2015–2020 and is possible due to the District’s affiliation with the Ohio Innovation Lab Network (ILN). Orange is one of only a handful of school districts in Ohio eligible to apply for this waiver.

Intersession Helps 5th Graders FETCH! Good Finances

MHS 5th graders recently participated in FETCH!, the Ohio Society of CPA's "Financial Education Teaches Children Healthy Habits" program. The program offers students a fun, interactive way to learn about budgeting, saving, and spending, as they compete in an adventure through a dog park filled with financial risks and rewards.

 
OHS Fall Blood Drive Saves Lives

Five dozen students and staff may have saved nearly 140 lives by donating blood in this week's fall blood drive at OHS.

BMS Students' Food Drive Helps Make a Difference
BMS students' food drive brought in more than 1700 non-perishable items to help those in need this holiday season. Members of the Builders Club delivered that food this week to the Garfield United Methodist Church pantry.

OHS Homecoming Royalty 2013 Announced

Congratulations to the students selected for the 2013 OHS Homecoming Court! Students will be introduced at a Pep Rally on Thursday and at pre-game of the Varsity football game against Wickliffe on Friday night, kickoff at 7pm. The new Queen and King will be crowned at halftime!
