MHS 2nd Graders Kick-Off Alex's Lemonade Stand Events
Moreland Hills Elementary School second graders are making a difference one cup of lemonade at a time. Students in Mrs. Vishala Raj's gifted program have begun their annual effort to combat pediatric cancer through Alex's Lemonade Stand. The program foundation began in 2000 when a four-year-old cancer patient named Alexandra Scott wanted to help her doctors find a cure for the disease. She ran her first lemonade stand that summer on the principle: "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade."
As part of the program, MHS students participated in a nationwide video conference kick-off to promote their efforts. Students choreographed a dance and cheer encouraging students and staff to "Zoom In for Out of this World Lemonade" by reaching for the moon to fight childhood cancer.
The second graders will sell lemonade at MHS May 16-18 with all proceeds going toward combating pediatric cancer. They also created a commercial to support their efforts -- and need your votes! Please check out the commercial by clicking here . Please "like" their video, FB the link, or tweet it! The school that gets the most "likes" wins the commercial contest!
And don't forget to send your student with some extra change next week (50 cents/small cup or $1.00 for a large cup) for a delicious, thirst-quenching cup of lemonade all for a very worthy cause!
