Orange Foundation Hosts Successful 2012 Outing
The Orange Schools Foundation presented its 2012 Orange Golf Outing on Monday, June 18th at Beechmont Country Club. More than five dozen golfers participated with dozens of staff, students and community members assisting at the event. Last year’s event brought in more than $30-thousand for the schools…organizers hope to top last year’s successes this year.
“Our golf outing is the vehicle that we use as our major fundraiser,” said Orange Schools Foundation Administrator Karen Erlenbach. “The Orange Schools Foundation has one purpose: to make money. A secondary purpose is to give away that money. And we can’t give unless we make. We truly believe that a big event such as this is a great tool that the community participates in and gets excited about, and we make money.”
The day’s events included a warm-up on a driving range and putting green, a luncheon, an 18-hole Shotgun Golf Tournament and a dinner reception. Participants were also eligible to participate in a 50/50 Closest-to-the-pin Contest and a “Lucky 14” Raffle. Prizes included a Porsche Boxster “Weekend Fun in the Sun” package along with a range of other prizes including professional teeth whitening, gift certificates to local establishments and an i-Touch.
Golfers had time to socialize before the event started, competed for many prizes during play and had time to network with friends and new acquaintances both before and after the tournament. Non-golfers also joined in on the fun by enjoying the day's events, the dinner and participating in the raffles, all under sunny skies.
Since its inception in 1991, the Orange Schools Foundation has donated approximately $325,000 for instructional technology, classroom enrichment projects and recognition for student accomplishments in academic, artistic and athletic endeavors. All proceeds from the Golf Outing benefit the students…and, according to Erlenbach, those participating benefit as well.
“I think they will feel good that they’re doing something for the kids and that absolutely is the bottom line because remember, an investment in our kids’ future is an investment in our country’s future.”
Thank you to all who supported our students by participating in this year's annual Golf Outing!
