Board Selects 2013 Officers, Approves Appointments

At its recent organizational meeting, the Orange School Board approved the appointment of Mr. Sam Steinhouse and Mrs. Angela Wilkes as its President and Vice President, respectively.

Mr. Steinhouse joined the Board in 2008 and is serving his fourth consecutive year as president. He and his wife Susan live in Moreland Hills and have two sons who graduated from Orange High School. He has served on the Orange Schools Foundation Board. Steinhouse is a member of the Orange Alumni Association and was a 2008 inductee into its Hall of Fame.

Mrs. Wilkes joined the Board in 2012. She is a resident of Pepper Pike and a 17-year dedicated volunteer for Orange Schools. She and her husband Gary Wilkes, M.D., are proud parents of Orange High School honor graduates, Stephen Alexander Wilkes, M.D. and David Alan Wilkes. She has served as an Orange Schools Foundation Trustee, a 2004 operating levy campaign co-chair and is the Orange High School Sister to Sister Program founder and mentor. She has also served in many other capacities for various academic planning and advisory committees and the Orange PTAs.

The Board also approved appointments to the 2013 District committees. Mr. Tom Bonda and Mrs. Jennifer Cohen will serve on the Athletics Committee. Mrs. Dagmar Fellowes and Mrs. Wilkes were appointed to the Building and Grounds Committee. Mrs. Wilkes and Mr. Steinhouse will serve on the Communications Committee.

Appointments to the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) were approved. Mrs. Cohen will serve as a delegate at the OSBA annual conference with Mrs. Wilkes as an alternate. Mrs. Fellowes will serve as a legislative liaison to OSBA while Mr. Bonda serves as the student achievement liaison.

Along with many other objectives, the Board is currently working with students, staff, administrators and community members on developing a facilities plan that will assure the District has the capacity to create a learning environment that supports students' needs now and in the future.
