February 10, 2013

After months of preparation, the Orange High School Mock Trial teams under the direction of adviser David Chordas were well-prepared for the district competition held in downtown Cleveland this past week.  OHS sent its largest group ever with more than 80 students participating.  Five of the original ten teams advanced to regional competition which is the most number of teams from one school in the state!

Mock trial students study a case history throughout the year and then go to the district competition where the student attorneys will argue their case against other schools.  Teams generally consist of eight members including a plaintiff side and a defense side with two attorneys and two witnesses.  They practice arguing against each other so they are prepared to compete against other schools.  At the district competition, winning teams are selected to advance to the regional competition which will be held on February 22nd.

Congratulations to the following members of the five teams which are advancing:

Team Versailles:  Brad Cahn, Amy Wu, Jacob Yelsky, Chloe Antrobus, Austin Krantz and Hallie Israel
