Good Luck at States to OHS Mock Trial Teams
March 7, 2013Good Luck at States! March 7th - 9th
The verdict is in...and Orange High School students are victorious!
Three OHS mock trial teams have been selected to advance from regionals to the state competition. That is the most number of teams Orange has ever sent to states, and Orange is the only school that will represent our region at the state competition.
Mock trial students study a case history throughout the year and then go to the district competition where the student attorneys argue their case against other schools. Teams generally consist of eight members including a plaintiff side and a defense side with two attorneys and two witnesses. They practice arguing against each other so they are prepared to compete against other schools.
Outstanding individual participants are also honored. Those include:
Outstanding Attorney Awards: Brad Cahn (six in a row!), Camille Rekhson, Evan Wahl, Alex Mayes, Cory Bonda, Melissa Ma, and Josh Abraham
Outstanding Witness Awards: Chloe Antrobus, Matt Fisher, Hannah Levine, Eli Sugerman, Emory Butcheck
More than 80 students from Orange High School competed in the original district competition under the direction of adviser David Chordas. Five of the original ten teams advanced to regional competition which is the most number of teams from one school in the state. The regional competition was held on February 22nd; the three state-bound teams will compete March 7th and March 8th.
