Orange's Mark Genovese Honored at New Directions!

Congratulations to Orange Schools Paraprofessional Mark Genovese who is one of the recipients of the 2014 “John Wolf Community Gratitude Award” presented by New Directions!

“I am presenting this award to Mark because of the man he is,” said teacher Cheri Waggle who along with CEO Mike Matoney congratulated Genovese in front of the gathered crowd. “He exemplifies all of the core values of New Directions including collaboration, diversity, excellence, integrity, tenacity, and client-centered. His honesty and sincerity and his continual interest in assisting others and willingness to lend a hand are all without question.”

New Directions is a facility that provides quality life-changing treatment to chemically dependent adolescents and their families from across Northeast Ohio who are dealing with emotional, behavioral and psychiatric needs. Through the Orange Schools, Genovese worked at New Directions as a teacher aide for nearly 15 years. Currently, Genovese works at Brady Middle School and is the Varsity cross-country coach at Orange High School. He has also coached football, wrestling and track at OHS and BMS.

With his mother Audrey (Orange Schools Athletic Director Assistant) looking on proudly, Genovese clearly displayed his humility as he accepted the award, shining the light on others.

“To clients past and present, to me this day is all about you and it’s all about the wonderful people at New Directions in all phases of care that are helping you,” he said.

The awards ceremony was part of the annual “Gratitude Day” which fell on the anniversary of the day when the first clients had been admitted into the New Directions Treatment Program in 1981. New Directions President and Chairman of the Board Mike Crislip was also a recipient of this year’s award. The award was established in 1985 in honor of Honorary Board Member John Wolf for his “tireless service to the mission of New Directions.”

“We are recognizing the individuals whose energy and enthusiasm have positively impacted New Directions,” said Matoney. “Mark Genovese embodies all the characteristics of John Wolf for his tireless, patient and excellent service to our clients and families.”

Congratulations Mark!
