Welcome Dr. Joffrey Jones, Interim Superintendent
The Orange City School District announces the hiring of Joffrey Philip Jones, Ph.D. as its new Interim Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Jones was approved by the Orange Board of Education at its October 23, 2017 regular meeting. His contract begins January 1, 2018 and ends July 31, 2018. He will work on a consultant basis from October 30, 2017 through December 31, 2017. He will be the successor to current Superintendent Dr. Edwin Holland who is retiring December 31, 2017. The District is currently conducting a search for its next full-time superintendent.
Dr. Jones served as an assistant professor at Kent State University for the past two years. At KSU, he taught educational administration focusing on leadership, school culture, school finance, principalship, and superintendency. He also served as an adjunct professor for Cleveland State University (2009-2017) where he taught 21st century educational leadership courses and for Ashland University (2008, 2010) where he taught courses on human relations in school administration and on superintendency.
He has more than 20 years experience as an educational leader. He served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Euclid City School District for 10 years. Prior to Euclid Schools, he served for seven years as Assistant Superintendent for the Mentor Exempted Village School District. Before becoming the Assistant Superintendent, he served Mentor Schools for five years as a unit principal at Mentor High School and principal of Ridge Junior High School. He also taught in the Parma City School District for 19 years.
Dr. Jones has been involved in many significant professional educational leadership experiences, including serving as the current co-facilitator of the Superintendents’ Forum. In the past, he has served on the Buckeye Association of School Administrators Report Card Committee and was involved with both the National Superintendents Academy and the Harvard Leadership Institute for Superintendents.
He has been married to another educational leader, Sharon Jones, for 46 years. They have one child, son Brandon Jones of New York City, a Harvard graduate (2000) who is currently the President of Admissions at Kaplan Inc., a national test preparation company. Dr. Jones was born and raised on Long Island, New York. After graduating from Garden City High School, he attended Ohio University earning his BA in English.
