Sophomore Earns First Place in Fourth Ohio K-12 Chinese Contest
Congratulation to Orange High School Sophomore Nathaniel Watson on earning first place in the Fourth Ohio K-12 Chinese Speech and Essay Contests which were recently held at Cleveland State University. He was one of 40 finalists at the high school level who competed at CSU.
Nathaniel gave his speech to a panel of Chinese judges who then asked him questions, some about his speech and some random ones which he had to answer in Chinese. After listening to all 40 students, some of who were heritage learners, the judges awarded him first place.
This competition was open to all students of Chinese in Ohio; there were 800 students from K-12 who participated. Nathaniel was named a finalist after he recorded his speech and sent it to the Confucius Institute located both at CSU and the University of Akron. His next step will be Nationals.
