Student Safety Highest Priority
October 07, 2016
Dear Orange Schools Families,
Most of you have likely heard the news about the recent rash of “scary clown” hoaxes and threats happening across the country where people are using social media sites (Twitter, Instagram) to post pictures of menacing looking clowns and threatening to go to an area to inflict harm. I know this has some of our students nervous or concerned.
I want to assure you that the safety of your children is our highest priority. We are working with local law enforcement and neighboring school districts to monitor and address any activities related to this trend. It is important that we all work together to help ensure the safety of our schools. School counselors, teachers and office staff are available at each school to reassure students that they are safe.
We also take student involvement in any threatening activity seriously and will investigate all student participation that is brought to our attention. Our schools are reminding students of the unintended consequences of social media behaviors.
Any student that has a concern about a potential threat should speak to a school staff member. Students can also use the Safe School Helpline, which is private, confidential and anonymous. The Helpline can be accessed via telephone at 1-800-4-1-VOICE ext. 359, online at www.safeschoolhelpline.com, or by texting 66746 and typing, "TIPS" as the message.
If you have any information or concerns on this or any other Orange Schools safety issue, please contact me directly.
