Orange Alum Named National Wide Receiver Performer of the Week
LEWISBURG, Pa. – One day after being named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career, Bucknell sophomore WR Will Carter (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange) on Tuesday was named National Wide Receiver Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA).
Carter had a career day in Saturday’s 45-24 win at conference rival Lehigh as he caught seven passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown receptions were 69, 78 and 77 yards as he became the fifth player in school history to record multiple 70-yard touchdowns in the same game.
The 246 receiving yards are No. 2 on the Bison all-time list, fifth in Patriot League history and the most by an FCS player this season. Carter is the first Bucknell player to eclipse 200 receiving yards in a game since 1989.
Carter tied the school record for touchdown receptions in a game and became the first Bison with three receiving touchdowns since 1986.
Saturday’s performance was Carter’s second career 100-yard game. He has caught 22 passes for a team-high 531 yards and seven touchdowns this season. He is averaging 24.1 yards per catch and is now just 73 yards shy of 1,000 in his two-year career.
Bucknell, which at 5-1 is off to its best start to a season since 2001, will be idle this weekend before returning to action next Saturday, Oct. 25, for a 2 p.m. Patriot League contest at Georgetown. The Hoyas are 2-5, 0-2 PL this year and also have a bye this weekend.
