OHS, BMS Music Students Hit High Notes At Competitions


Congratulations to the Orange High School and Brady Middle School music students who have competed recently at various Solo and Ensemble contests and have excelled in their respective contests, all scoring Superior (I) and Excellent (II) ratings!

Nearly 70 Brady Middle School students competed this past weekend at the Greater Cleveland Middle School Solo and Ensemble Contest in Cleveland Heights. Their 39 various solos, duets, trios, and ensembles earned the students 37 Superior ratings and two ratings of Excellent. Congratulations to Allie Ahn, Piper Anderson, Lily Apanius, Grant Bell, Raghav Bhatia, Benjamin Boardman, Kenaz Bouali, Liz Bolek, Clara Briskin, Connor Brown, Qadr Calliens, Arjan Chahal, A.J. Chardiet, Sanford Cohn, Megan Conway, Sadie Conway, Gwen Darrah, Marvin Davies, Zayne El-Kaissi, Jackson Fellinger, Steven Fellinger, Peter Fisher, Lucas Fleming, Brian Foster, Megan Gibas, Xavier Grant, Sydney Harper, Tira Heiss, Ellis Hicks, Reese Hill, Elaina Hunkele, Anna Klinginsmith, Jared Kochis, Rohan Krishnamurthi, Jared Kochis, Payson Lang, Jess Lebowitz, Amy Leitson, Josh Leonard, Mason Lurie, Zachary McCarren, Levi Meeker, Iris Miller, Ryan Miller, Chayton Mines, Robert Miron, Sam Occhionero, Matthew Paull, Jaden Polster, Sofia Pristash, Olivia Richards, Sam Roll, Danny Saliba, Krishna Sanaka, Rosalind Sanders, Ryan Schaffer, Gabe Schechtman, Bryanna Schleifer, Emma Snyder, Aidan Stearns, Courtney Taylor, Grace Taylor, Holden Thomas, William Van de Walle, Ryan Vincent, Desmond Washington, Arwen Whiteman, and Connor Whiteman!

Meanwhile, clarinet player Benjamin Boardman, trumpet player Clara Briskin, French horn player A.J. Chardiet, tuba player William Van de Walle and percussionist Brian Foster, all seventh graders, were selected for the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District VII Honor Band and performed a concert recently at Mentor High School.

Orange High School band students also excelled at the OMEA District VII Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event held at Mayfield High School in February. Junior Aretha On earned an Excellent rating on her Class A Flute Solo. Freshman oboe soloist Ryan Vincent and sophomore snare drum soloist Max Dallinga each received Superior ratings on their performances. The Orange High School Saxophone Quartet comprised of juniors Jeremy Stark and Aidan Scheer and sophomores Nick Romano and Matt Rosenthal also earned a Superior rating for their performance.

Piano soloist sophomore Victoria Popritkin received a Superior rating for her performance of Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C# Minor.

Orchestra students also excelled in competition. The OHS String Quartet for Thea Apanius, Emma Rico, Isabel Sands, and Mi Row along with OHS orchestra soloists Farideh Saghafi (violin), Rico (violin), Apanius (violin), and Row (cell) all received Superior ratings in Class A at the OMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest.

All of our students and staff members worked hard in preparing college and professional literature and their professionalism and performances represented Orange well. The entire OHS Wind Ensemble will be adjudicated this week at Mentor High School at 5:30pm on Friday, March 11th. Families, friends, and members of the community are invited to attend the performance.
