First Place for OHS Freshman at International Problem Solving Competition!
May 04, 2015
Congratulations Orange High School ninth grader Victoria Popritkin! She won first place honors in the middle division at the recent International Future Problem Solving competition in the category of Scenario Writing.

The program encourages students to develop and submit futuristic short stories. Her story "Once You Let the Eyes In" was based on the topic of social media. Students began the process by researching an issue and identifying trends. A specific trend was then projected into the future and became the foundation of the scenario, which was then developed through the characters and plot. Popritkin's story was selected from among hundreds of submissions from students in 45 states and more than a dozen countries around the world. Her work will be published along with the other winning scenarios next year.

Fellow freshman Jacob Cramer will have the opportunity to compete at the International Future Problem Solving Bowl in Iowa in June when he represents Ohio in the Community Problem Solving component of the competition. Cramer's project "Love for the Elderly" received first place at the state level qualifying him to compete at the International Bowl. Sophomore Isabel Sands also excelled at the state level, earning the third place title for her scenario "The Beasts of Bethlehem."
