Doors to Diplomacy:  The U. S. Department of State sponsors the "Doors to Diplomacy" educational challenge - to encourage middle school and high school students around the world to produce web projects that teach others about the importance of international affairs and diplomacy. Each student team member of the winning "Doors to Diplomacy" Award team receives a $2,000 scholarship, and the winning coaches' schools each receive a $500 cash award. Learn more

The Future Problem Solving Program:  Engages students in creative problem solving.  FPSPI stimulates critical and creative thinking skills and encourages students to develop a vision for the future. FPSPI features competition in the following areas: Team Problem Solving, Scenario Writing, and Community Problem Solving.  Provides opportunities to compete individually and as a team.  (See Kathy Frazier in room 236)

Kids Philosophy Slam
The Kid’s Philosophy Slam is designed to promote philosophical dialogue between kids and adult, and to promote a greater awareness of philosophy and education in everyday life.  The topic for 2007-2008” “Is global warming the greatest challenge facing humankind.

FIRST Robotics
FIRST was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway Human Transporter. FIRST operates the FIRST Robotics Competition in which teams of high school students, sponsored and assisted by local companies and volunteers, design, assemble, and test a robot capable of performing a specified task in competition with other teams.

Let’s Get Real
An academic competition and an opportunity for teams of students to gain experience working on real business challenges. Corporate sponsors supply real challenges for which teams submit solutions in business format.  Ideal for students who are considering a career in business.

Please be advised if you are considering participating in one of the highly competitive competitions below it is highly recommended that you consider pursuing a mentorship with a professional working in a science related field at least a year in advance.  Students participating in these competitions generally have experience conducting research prior to entering these prestigious competitions.

Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair
The Northeastern Ohio Science and Engineering Fair (NEOSEF) is a non-profit organization, whose goal is to get young adults interested in science and engineering by encouraging them to participate in a science and engineering competition.

Ohio Junior Science and Humanities Symposium
The Ohio Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) program for young scientists is unique because each year a high school student from Ohio has the opportunity to win more than $17,000 college scholarship and to represent the United States at an international science meeting held in London, England

Any Ohio secondary school student, grades 9-12, may enter his or her research paper in the Ohio JSHS by submitting documentation of a personally conducted research study to the Director of the Ohio JSHS by the specific deadline.

Sanofi-Aventis International BioGENEius Challenge
The sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge is an annual competition for high school students that recognize outstanding research in biotechnology. Each year, regional winners from the United States and Canada are invited to compete in the international competition, held in conjunction with the BIO Annual International Convention, and present their projects to a panel of judges comprised of the leading scientists and educators in the biotechnology field.  Winners receive cash awards and display their projects to convention participants.
