Ashland University Intensives

ASM Student Materials Camp
A weeklong academic camp features highly interactive, lab-based activity tailored to individual student interest areas. Evening social activities include a materials "sub-theme" (i.e.; tours of local attractions and industry tours, etc.). Students "graduate" during a special event with chapter, ASM, and Foundation leaders, where they have the opportunity to meet and network, and explore career options.

Bowling Green State University Summer Honors Institute
The Summer Honors Institute for Gifted Students provides an alternative learning experience for high school students. Bowling Green State University’s Institute offers both exploratory and in-depth specialized activities and provides a high degree of interaction among the program participants. Current freshmen and sophomores are eligible to submit an application.

Cleveland State Summer Honors Institute
This program is designed to extend academic learning and personal growth for gifted high school students. Students will have the opportunity to make new friends with similar interests and abilities while engaging in state-of-the-art science and math experiences in university lab facilities. The Problem-Solving Summer Honors Institute includes the Flying Circus of Physics, Mathematical Kaleidoscope, and Making Connections.

Creative Connections – Kent State University
A weeklong residential program for freshman and sophomores at Kent Sate University. At Creative Connections, you'll explore, learn, practice and have fun under the tutelage of expert instructors. Equinox Program
A joint program of Case Western Reserve University and Northwestern University's Center for Talent Development, the program provides advanced study for academically talented students in grades 10-12 to earn high school credit while gaining a college experience. Students may live in the dorms or commute to class throughout Equinox's three-week (June 26-July 15, 2005) program.

EDGE: Exciting Discovery for Girls in Engineering
This camp is focused on girls entering their sophomore and junior years in high school, and is designed to better acquaint the participants with opportunities in engineering and how their interests and talents can be utilized in this exciting career. The campers will build their own electronics device, program an experiment using Lego Investigator, and tour engineering laboratories and a production facility.

Engineers in Motion: Ohio State University
The College of Engineering will host the week-long workshop called “Engineers in Motion” for male and female students who will enter the 10th or 11th grade in the 2007-08 academic school year. Martin W. Essex School for the Gifted
The Martin W. Essex School for the Gifted is a unique opportunity for Ohio's top high school students to broaden their vision of the future. The School was founded in 1976 and named for Dr. Martin W. Essex, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1966 to 1976. Now in its third decade, this one-week residential program emphasizes leadership and responsibility for the many exciting career options open to students with exceptional abilities.
Gifted eleventh-grade students, who will be seniors during the following school year, are eligible to submit applications to their superintendents. The superintendent is authorized to forward one application for each 10,000 ADM, or fraction thereof, in a school district's jurisdiction. As part of the application, nominees complete a 500-word essay. In addition, two teacher recommendations rate them on scholarship, leadership, and commitment to social responsibility.
The Essex School is held annually during the first week of August in Columbus at The Ohio State University. Activities for the week include seminars, workshops and independent studies in a variety of subjects, including government, the arts, science, human resources, the environment, technology, diversity, and career planning.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology – Women’s Technology Program
The WTP is a residential summer program in the MIT Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science to introduce high school girls to EECS in the summer after 11th grade.
The four-week program includes rigorous classes in computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematics taught by women PhD candidates in the MIT EECS Department, and allows girls to explore through hands-on experiments and team-based projects.

National Computer Camp: Notre Dame College (in Cleveland)
This program provides students with excellent opportunities to learn about various area in the field of computer technology. Northwest University: Okay Ohio State Academy
The College Preparation Program at Northwestern University is designed for students who want new academic challenges and the experience of real college life before finishing high school. This pre-college program takes place for six to eight weeks as part of the regular Summer Session, with students earning Northwestern academic credit for the courses taken.

Ohio Business Week is an exciting weeklong summer program that gives eligible high school students from around the state a unique, hands-on experience with business and entrepreneurship. Students learn directly from the pros how to establish and run their own company.

National Youth Leadership Conference: Washington, DC
This program provides students with the opportunity to learn about public policy making and to analyze current issues. Students take part in discussions on current issues, participate in simulations, and participate in hands-on learning activities. Students also have the opportunity to speak with current policy makers in Washington DC.

The National Youth Leadership Forum has the following programs available for high school students: The National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine; the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence, and Diplomacy; and the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law.

Ohio State Academy
The Ohio State Academy Program is an opportunity for outstanding high school students to enroll in Ohio State classes. The Ohio State Academy is limited to students who have achieved at the highest levels while in high school. Admission to the Academy is based on class rank, grade point average, and standardized test scores. The majority of students who enroll in the Academy are in the 11th or 12th grades. Exceptional students in the 9th and 10th grades may apply for the program, but must meet the same admission requirements as older students. There are several special programs that are available through the Ohio State Academy. Each of these programs requires a separate application. PROMYS: Program for Young Mathematicians and Scientists
PROMYS is a challenging program designed to encourage ambitious high school students to explore the creative world of mathematics. Each summer, approximately 60 high school students from around the country gather on the campus of Boston University for six weeks of rigorous mathematical activity. Through their intensive efforts to solve an assortment of unusually challenging problems in Number Theory, participants will practice the art of mathematical discovery.

Sleuths Science Camp
Ohio Wesleyan University is pleased to offer the SLEUTHS Science Camp, a two-week residential science camp involving chemistry, geology, physics, and mathematics.
Given the shortage of minorities in the sciences, the SLEUTHS Science Camp is especially interested in, but not limited to, students from groups underrepresented in the sciences -- including African-Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans.
Students must have completed a course in both biology and chemistry and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. The SLEUTHS Science Camp is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Stone Laboratory Summer Science Opportunities: Lake Erie
This program is sponsored by Ohio State University. It enables students to get practical experience in the field of science. Students can take courses related to aquatic biology, the study of birds, and an introduction to oceanography.

Summer Honors in Environmental Studies: Antioch College
This program offers gifted students entering their sophomore and junior years of high school a unique opportunity to explore real world environmental challenges in the beautiful Glen Helen Nature Preserve. Students receive academic instruction and mentorship from college professors, environmental professionals and community organizations in this experiential, interdisciplinary course of study.

Summer Enrichment Program – College of William and Mary
Residential program for freshman and sophomores held at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia.
The program recognizes the importance of allowing able youngsters to explore additional specialized areas of science, mathematics, and the arts and humanities; it is not meant to supplant the regular school curriculum.
Students who have scored in the upper 5th percentile (95 or above) on a nationally normed aptitude or achievement test are eligible. Please visit the web site for additional testing criteria.

Research Science Institute – Center for Excellence in Education and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
The Research Science Institute, established in 1984, is the first summer science program to combine on-campus course work in scientific theory with off-campus work in scientific research. Students work under mentors who are scientists, mathematicians, and engineers.

UCONN Mentor Connection
UConn Mentor Connection is a summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors located at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, and CT. The program is based on the following beliefs:
- Above average ability, creativity, and task commitment can be developed and nurtured.
- Creative productivity results from the interaction of above average ability, creativity, and task commitment.
- All social contexts, including school, the home, and the community can influence the incidence of creative productivity. The university setting provides an especially promising context for creative productivity because first-hand inquiry is the core of almost all daily work.
- Creative and productive individuals exist in every ethnic and cultural group and across all socioeconomic levels.

University of Cincinnati Continuing Education - Summer Honors Institutes for Gifted Students
Three separate week-long residential programs for current 9th and 10th grade gifted high school students. Classes are taught in UC’s College of Medicine, College of Law, and College of Business. Students will observe a medical procedure, get the feel of a courtroom, or participate in a videoconference.
