Orange Athletics Update

By Coordinator of Athletics, Mr. TJ Rockwell

November/December 2009

TENNIS
Congratulations to Lydia Colvin on advancing to the state tennis tournament as she represented Orange extremely well in Columbus. Our ladies varsity team finished 3rd overall in the CVC.

CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to Michael Martin on advancing to Regionals in Youngstown.

BOYS SOCCER
Finished 3rd in the Chagrin Valley Conference and were sectional champions for only the 4th time in the last 15 years.

GIRLS SOCCER
Won a school record 11 games this year, after winning only 10 games the previous four seasons combined. Also won a sectional championship (1st in school history) and advanced to the districts semi-finals.

VOLLEYBALL
For a very young team (no seniors) the girls had a great season, advancing to the sectional final game vs. Chagrin Falls. In a very tough league, we finished fourth overall in the CVC.

BOYS GOLF
Finished 3rd in the CVC this year. The boys missed qualifying for the district tournament by 1 stroke. However, Jesse Zwick did qualify for districts as an individual after shooting an 85 at Stonewater on Sept. 29.

GIRLS GOLF
The girls team qualified for the district tournament as a team for only the second time in school history. Also, finished 1st at the CVC Tournament at Glen Eagles which was a first in the history of the program. The girls finished 4th at the district golf tournament on Oct. 6, only 1 spot away from qualifying for the state tournament.

FIELD HOCKEY
The girls had a great fall, even though we didn't get many wins. We play in a very competitive league with much bigger schools, but our ladies did a great job of representing Orange.

FOOTBALL
Finished with a record of 3-7 after getting an exciting come from behind victory in week 10 against Harvey. After being down 21-7 at halftime the Lions came back to win 34-28 by scoring a touchdown with less than 2 minutes remaining.

Our athletes at Orange High School are now more than halfway through the fall sports season and I am happy to report that many of our teams have had much success. Here is a quick rundown of our teams and some of their accomplishments:

Cross Country-Our boys and girls teams are finishing in the middle of the pack in most invitationals and dual meets.

Boys Soccer-Record of 5-4-3. We tied state ranked Hawken 1-1 earlier this season. Have a big game coming up on Oct. 15 at home vs. Chagrin. We will also honor our 11 seniors and their parents that evening.

Field Hockey-Record of 0-8. No wins yet for the team, but play in a very competitive league with much bigger schools.

Girls Soccer-7-4-1. The girls won their first ever CVC match when they beat Kenston 4-3 back on Sept. 24

Boys Golf-Finished 3rd in the CVC this year. The boys missed qualifying for the district tournament by 1 stroke. However, Jesse Zwick did qualify for districts as an individual after shooting an 85 at Stonewater on Sept. 29.

Girls Golf-Qualified for the district tournament as a team for the first time in school history. Also, finished 1st at the CVC Tournament at Glen Eagles which also was a first in the history of the program.
