Rosemarie Fabrizio, Guidance Coordinator We are proud to share the wonderful college choices for the Orange High School Class of 2007. Competition levels remain fierce at colleges and universities across the country as more students graduate from secondary school and apply to college. As reported in the April 4th New York Times, many highly selective colleges including Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Stanford, are accepting single digit percentages of applicants and sending out record numbers of rejection letters. We are pleased to report Orange students were offered admission to a wide range of colleges and universities including ivy league colleges, prestigious public and private universities, small liberal arts colleges, and colleges with liberal admission standards. Ninety-seven (97%) percent of our 180 graduates will matriculate directly to college with slightly more than half remaining in the state of Ohio. After Ohio, the Northeast is the college region of choice followed by the Midwest, South, and West. We have students who are pursuing musical theater, technology, accelerated medical programs, equine studies, art and design, and accelerated and honors programs at a number of universities. Additionally, two students are entering the United States Marine Corps, a student is working with the Disney Corporation, and another student will enter an apprenticeship program. The Class of 2007 includes twenty-five (25) sons and daughters of Orange High School alumni, fourteen (14) students recognized by the National Merit/National Achievement Corporation, thirty-four (34) who are graduating with a cumulative GPA of 4.0 or higher, thirty-seven (37) scholar/athletes, one hundred and four (104) students recognized for honor roll, and thirty-two (32) students acknowledged for significant community service. In the 2006-07 school year, the Siemens Corporation named Orange High School’s Advanced Placement Program the top in the state of Ohio. One hundred and eleven (111) students were named Advanced Placement Scholars and twenty (20) students were named National Advanced Placement Scholars, the highest designation given by the College Board in the Advanced Placement program. Additionally, Orange Schools boasts an Advanced Placement State Scholar, one of 100 in the country. As we look to the Class of 2008 and beyond, we face the following trends and challenges in college admission:
