Extracurriculars

Orange High School extracurricular activities encompass a wide range of clubs, programs, and competitive sports, providing students with opportunities for academic, physical, and social skills development. They currently include:

Academic Decathlon: Students compete in a rigorous state level competition involving speech, essay, interview, tests in six curricular areas, and a quick answer round. A specific study guide is provided and the team must consist of nine juniors and seniors with A, B, and C, GPA’s represented equally.

American Field Service (A.F.S.): This organization is designed to assist international students attending Orange High School as well as providing structured opportunities for Orange students.

Amnesty International: This is an international organization working for the rights of political prisoners throughout the world.

Dance and Flag Team (Lionettes): The purpose of these groups is to promote spirit at athletic events, entertain at sports contests, and participate with the band at special events.

Environmental Club: Students have opportunities to plan, organize, and execute activities that promote recycling and positive stewardship of the earth’s resources.

Fall Play & Spring Musical: Students are involved in all aspects of the productions: direction, vocal performance, acting, make-up, costumes, props, and lighting.

Investment Club: This club provides students with opportunities to understand the stock market and to prepare for careers.

Israel Culture Club: The Israel Culture Club meets to discuss topics relating to the State of Israel and the cultures that inhabit this area of the Middle East.  Meetings occur every other week after school

Junior Council On World Affairs (OJCOWA): The majority of activities focus on participation in one of several Model United Nations programs.  The Club also supports international projects, such as the establishment of a sister school in the Soviet Union.

Key Club/Red Cross Club: A service club sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, this club provides the opportunity for students to assist in community and school service projects.  Students plan, organize and execute projects of their choice on a regular basis.

French, Latin and Spanish Clubs: Clubs seek to support and promote an interest in foreign culture and customs.  The groups arrange special language speakers. Attend movies and plays, plan cultural dinners and events, and discuss subjects relating to the culture.

Marching Band: The Orange High School Marching Band provides entertainment at football games and for selected community events.  Summer rehearsals begin in August for all students proficient on any wind or percussion instrument.

Middle Eastern Cultures Club: Students have the opportunity to learn about Middle Eastern cultures and dispel stereotypes about peoples, beliefs, and practices. The club participates in field trips, a Model Arab League simulation, food sampling, cultural exchanges, volunteer activities, interacting with guest speakers, watching videos, and listening to music

Mock Trial: Mock Trial allows students the opportunity to play the role of lawyer or witness for the prosecution or defense and compete against other high schools in Ohio. 

National Honor Society: The goal of this group is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, encourage student service, and develop leadership and character.  Tenth through twelfth grades are eligible.  Students must maintain a GPA of 3.5 and be involved in one major or two minor extracurricular activities.

Newspaper (The Orange Outlook): Staff members learn all the aspects of newspaper production.

Orange Gay-Straight Alliance: The Orange GSA is a student-led and organized club to create a safe, welcoming, and accepting school environment. The GSA provides support for lesbian, gay, transgender, or questioning  (LGBTQ) students.

Orange Arts Seminar: This program is designed to interest students in the arts by organizing trips to attend plays, ballets, musicals, and operas and to visit museums and other programs of cultural interest.  Member is open to 10-12th graders.

Outstanding Minority Achievers (OMA): This organization consists primarily of African-American students with GPA’s 2.8 and higher.  OMA plans activities to foster camaraderie, pride and integrity among members.  Members serve as mentors to younger peers.

Project Support: A club formed to integrate regular and special education students, Project Support plans social events and community service activities including fundraising projects and a showcase to highlight disability awareness. 

SADD: This organization is open to all OHS students and encourages teenagers to make good decisions in all aspects of their lives.

Science Olympiad: The purpose of this group is to have fun with science activities.  Some categories involve design and construction while others involve skills and/or knowledge.  The group is open to all the students in grades 9 through 12.  Students can compete at local, district, and state levels.

Speech and Debate Club: The Speech and Debate team gives students the opportunity to become a member of the National Forensic League, a prestigious national honor society recognized by colleges nationwide. Students are able to compete against various high schools across the district, state, and even across the nation.

Spirit Club: Students meet weekly to make signs, paint windows, plan pep rallies, dances, and other activities that promote school spirit.  Members should be able to attend most weekly meetings.

Student Government Association (SGA): The SGA is the official student representative organization at Orange High School.  Their purpose is to assist and contribute to the planning and administering student affairs.  Elections for officers and representatives are held in the spring; delegates from homerooms are elected in the fall.  All students are invited to participate.

Thespians: Troupe 3015 is an international thespian group. The purpose of the group is to advance the standards of excellence in the dramatic arts. The organization encourages students to attain a mastery of language, to develop poise and self-control, and to appreciate dramatic literature and its techniques. The organization gives recognition for meritorious work in dramatics. Active members must participate in at least one school play and acquire at least ten Thespian points granted by play directors.

Unity and Diversity: A human relations, prejudice reduction program, this group often uses theater as a means to promote discussion. The program attempts to create a kinder, more loving and equitable world within the Orange Schools and community and by reaching out to other schools, organizations, and communities.

Yearbook (The Oran): The Oran staff produces the yearbook, developing their creative skills of writing, photography, and art.
