Transportation

The Orange School District Transportation system includes 52 buses.   All buses passed the State Highway Patrol’s annual inspection, again this year. Most busses are equipped with mounts for GPS enabled phones for out of district trips and digital cameras to protect the staff, students and the district’s investments.

Daily bus runs included:

  • 28 high school runs
  • 30 elementary school runs
  • 11 afternoon-kindergarten runs
  • 17 private school, excel tech and special needs runs

This adds up to approximately of 2,037 miles traveled every school day. In addition, each year our buses transport to approximately 1,129 field trips, including athletic events. These buses travel over 42,000 miles. The total distance covered each school year transporting students to and from school and on field trips comes to approximztley 400,000 miles.

Bus schedules are mailed to parents/guardians the week before school starts. If you have any questions concerning bus routes or schedules, please contact the Orange School District Transportation Office at: 216.831.8600, x7632, or fax us at 216.831.3712.   We coordinate 37 different school calendars and schedules to make the service we offer flow smoothly.

The Orange Schools understand the importance of the safety of our students. Orange bus drivers are always working on general knowledge and safety skills.

In July 2007, four drivers from the State of Ohio traveled to Boston Massachusetts to test their skills against 105 state roadeo winners from the United States and Canada. Two of our drivers, Deb Burns and Chuck SantaMaria, represented the Orange School District and Ohio at the roadeo. They were introduced to two study books that comprised the written tests and maneuverability events that they had never seen before.  They had four weeks to prepare themselves for this event.  Although they did not score in the top 5 drivers, they improved their knowledge of national standards of operation.

Our Transportation Team consists of:

  • 3 full time mechanics
  • 1 full time, 1 part time secretary
  • 1 supervisor
  • 10 substitute school bus drivers
  • 46 school bus drivers
  • 4 bus aides

As Director of Transportation, Nancy Gordon is very proud of all her staff and their belief in making a great transportation department even better. They are passionate about the safe transportation of children and have the support of the Community, Board of Education, Administrators and fellow district staff.
