Community Member Volunteer Chuck Jarrett Earns Coaching Excellence Award

Congratulations to community member Mr. Chuck Jarrett who has earned the “Lori Eiler Award for Coaching Excellence in Mock Trial” for his many years of volunteering with the Orange High School Mock Trial Team. He was presented this award at the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education (OCLRE) luncheon at its annual conference in Columbus, Ohio earlier this week.

Mr. Jarrett has been working with the OHS Mock Trial Team since 2002. He has volunteered his time every Wednesday night as well as weekends for students who seek out his expertise on a variety of topics.
These topics include writing opening and closing statements, developing good direct and/or cross questions and anything dealing with case law and objections. One night every year he holds a seminar we call "law school" where he goes over all applicable case law. He prepares a PowerPoint presentation and handout to help the kids out in connecting with this tough material.

Mr. Jarrett is an attorney and a former member of the Orange Schools Board of Education. His children all graduated from Orange High School. The OHS Mock Trial Team has been recognized at the district, regional and state level numerous times with Jarrett working with the students.

“He is well deserving of this award and has become a role model not only for our students but myself as well,” said Mr. David Chordas, OHS Mock Trial Team Head Advisor.

The "Lori Eiler Award for Coaching Excellence in Mock Trial" was established by OCLRE in 1998. Eligible candidates are those who regularly inspire and motivate Ohio Mock Trial students to outstanding performance, and who also connect with students to empower them with a sense of personal responsibility and civic duty.
