BOE, Administrators Attend OSBA Conference

Orange Schools Board members and several administrators recently attended the 59th annual Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Capital Conference and Trade Show in Columbus. They participated in many sessions on a variety of educational topics, including school board development, community relations, facilities, finance, school law, legislative topics, technology, human resources, student achievement and 21st century education. Orange representatives also visited the Hilliard School District to tour their 21st Century Learning environment and facility design.

Highlights of the conference included world-class keynote speakers, top experts leading more than 100 learnings sessions, the annual Student Achievement Fair, the largest education trade show in the U.S., and countless opportunities for educators to network and share ideas with their peers.

Orange was highlighted as our very own Stagecrafters Youth Theatre’s Broadway Buddies was one of the featured programs in the Student Achievement Fair. Eight of our students were on-hand along with Program Director Wendy Koeth and Stagecrafters Associate Claire Connelly. Students eagerly shared their experiences including their recent "Wizard of Oz" performance and the upcoming "Peter Pan" production. Broadway Buddies is an adaptive theater camp in which special needs students are paired with a buddy who assists them with acting, dancing, singing, and arts and crafts while performing a musical. Stagecrafters Youth Theatre is a dramatic arts program which seeks to help each student realize a positive self-image through the practice and technique of theatre.

The annual OSBA Conference is a celebration of student learning, a spotlight for educational technology, a chance for schools to share cost-cutting strategies and an opportunity to learn about all the latest issues in public education. It is the second-largest education convention in the nation. It draws school board members, superintendents, treasurers and other education professionals from Ohio and beyond. There are many reasons to attend the event but “Leadership for Learning” is what the conference is all about — professional development that prepares school district management teams for an ever-changing array of important education issues.
