Brady Has The Write-Stuff at Power of the Pen Tourney

Six 7th graders and six 8th graders from the Brady Middle School Power of the Pen team competed and performed well in the annual Power of the Pen district competitive writing tournament held at University School recently.

Competing at the 7th grade level were Margot Sanders, Emma Synder-Lovera, Kim Marcelino, Arwen Whiteman, Sophia Madden, and George Outcalt. The 8th grade team consisted of Krishna Sanaka, AJ Chardiet, Ryan Vincent, Ashayla Coward, Orly Wolf, and Will Van de Walle. In 7th grade, Synder-Lovera took home 6th place out of 97 writers. For 8th grade, Vincent took home 12th place, Wolf received 10th place, and Van de Walle earned 8th place out of more than 100 other writers. Vincent also won "Best of Round."

Because of the Brady team’s success at the district tournament, many of these talented writers will be going on to compete at the regional tournament held at Hudson Middle School on April 8, 2017. The school will be notified who has made it to the regional competition from the Power of the Pen headquarters soon.

Although Brady has a sizable and talented Power of the Pen club that meets every week, the team could only take 12 students overall to the tournament. The rest of the club is full of wonderful and skilled writers as well, and, as always, the team wishes they could all be at the tournament.
