Lander Circle Kiwanis Honors Orange Schools Staff Members of the Year

Kiwanis Winners Hold Plaques

Congratulations to our 2017 Lander Circle Kiwanis Staff Members of the Year: Elizabeth Kimberly and Sue Steines at MHS, Joe Paris at BMS, and Carrie Hicks at OHS.

The four staff members were recognized as part of the Convocation Day festivities which kicked off with a breakfast hosted by our incredible PTA, a parade featuring the OHS Marching Band Drum Line and Lionettes, presentations from our Administrators and Board Members, a keynote speech by Tom Speaks of the Impact Group discussing "The Art of Appreciology" and the Lander Circle Kiwanis Awards Presentation.

Each year, staff members are nominated in four categories: Elementary Teacher of the Year, Middle School Teacher of the Year, High School Teacher of the Year and District-wide Staff Member of the Year. A panel meets to review all of the nominations and selects one winner in each category. Unbeknownst to those who made the nominations or the awardees, family and friends of the winners are contacted and show up "unexpectedly" to surprise and congratulate them after their names are announced at Convocation.

This is the 28th year that the Kiwanis Club of Lander Circle has presented the awards. Foundation Director Kathy Kohl was on-hand at Convocation to present the winners with their plaques and a congratulatory stipend. She was joined by Superintendent Dr. Edwin Holland and LCK Secretary Julie Liedtke.
