Congratulations to our BMS Power of the Pen teams on an outstanding showing in the District Tournament earlier this year! The 7th grade team WON its tournament, placing first out of all of the 16 schools competing! Team members included Caroline Jang, Panka Karman, Vivian Qi, Noah Seaman, Anshul Sharma and Tatev Sargsyan.
The 8th grade team, including Emily Chiu, Lucy Campbell, Sana Adi and Stella Glesius, also did amazing work with Adi placing 3rd overall, Campbell placing 6th and Glesius placing 14th out of 66 eighth-grade writers! In the 7th grade category, Qi placed 3rd overall, Karman placed 6th, and Jang placed 11th out of 67 seventh-grade writers.
For the first time ever, Power of the Pen became the online 'Power of the Keyboard' with three 40-minute, back-to-back rounds after students were presented with a never-before-seen writing prompt. All practices and meetings have been held virtually since October.
Eight BMS writers including Jang, Karman, Qi, Seaman, Sargsyan, Campbell, Adi, and Glesius now move on to the Regional Competition which will be held virtually in March. The State Tournament is hosted in May by the College of Wooster for the top writers as determined by Regionals. Brady's 2020-21 Power of the Pen team is coached by teachers Sarah DiBenedetto, Jenna Drozd, Michele Cydulka-Weinstein and Sarah Moore.
Kudos to all involved and good luck at Regionals!
