Cassie Russo Named Kiwanis April Senior of the Month

Congratulations to OHS senior Cassie Russo who has been named the Kiwanis “SENIOR OF THE MONTH” for April 2023. Cassie epitomizes the Kiwanis values through her leadership, her volunteer efforts and her academic prowess. Vice President of the OHS National Honor Society, Cassie has taken seven AP courses, received Highest Honors GPA Recognition, and has been selected as an AP Scholar with Honor. She is also the recipient of the George Eastman Young Leaders Award, given to a student who has strong leadership experience, has high grades with challenging courses and extensive involvement in extracurricular activities.

Cassie is Secretary of the Student Government Association, President of the Environmental Club, and Key Club Treasurer. The multiple-sport athlete is Captain of the OHS Girls Varsity Soccer team and a three-time CVC Honorable Mention Recipient and also ran Track for two years and was named 1^st All Team CVC 100 Meter Dash and 1^st All TEAM CVC 200 Meter Dash in her sophomore year.

Her volunteer efforts include serving as a Youth Member and volunteer at St. Dominic’s Church, collecting and donating food and clothing to those in need in our extended community and in El Salvador. An advocate for women’s rights, Cassie has volunteered with Planned Parenthood’s Generation Action movement for the past two years. She also served as a student leader and organizer for Orange High School’s Inclusivity Day, working to embrace everyone’s differences and unique qualities. Cassie was selected to sing in this year’s OHS Talent Show which served as a fundraiser for the Healthy Fathering Collaborative and the Male Minority Leaders Group endeavors. She also was selected to participate in a National Student Leadership Conference at Johns Hopkins University.

The aspiring veterinarian plans to major in Biology or Animal Science in college. Toward that goal, Cassie has worked at Pet Palace Resort as a pet care specialist for the past year.

Every school year, the Kiwanis Club of Lander Circle recognizes six seniors for their leadership, integrity, and academic achievements. We thank the Kiwanis Club for its ongoing support and congratulate Cassie Russo as the April 2023 Kiwanis Student of the Month!
