At Orange City Schools, our Special Education Program supports every student in a compassionate environment that fosters independence, dignity, and joy. Grounded in data-informed practices, we help students grow into their full potential, building the skills and confidence needed for meaningful accomplishments and independent living.

  • We believe all students will learn and achieve high results when provided with engaging individualized activities through a continuum of services.

Child Find requires school districts to ensure the identification, location, and evaluation of all children with disabilities (3–21) residing in their district. This includes children in nonpublic schools, those who are homeless or wards of the state,and even those progressing from grade-to-grade but who are suspected of having a disability.   • The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act is a federal law in the United States that makes available a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities.

    Students are identified as having a disability under IDEA if:

    1. The child meets the state criteria for having a disability (or continuing to have a disability) based on the data provided in this document; and
    2. The child demonstrates an educational need that requires specially designed instruction

     

  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in programs and activities that receive federal funding, including public schools. It ensures students with disabilities have equal access to education and are not discriminated against. 

    Students are identified as having a disability under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 if:

    1. They have a physical or mental impairment that; 
    2. Substantially limits one or more major life activities” or the operation of a major bodily system/function
