English Language Arts (ELA)

A collection of educational materials, including books and digital devices, are displayed.

Orange City Schools' English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum is thoughtfully designed to build strong literacy foundations and foster a love of reading and writing at every grade level. In Pre-K, students engage with Heggerty for phonemic awareness, Joyful Writing to spark early writing development, and Creative Curriculum to support language-rich, play-based learning aligned to Ohio’s Early Learning Standards. In grades K–5, we use Benchmark Advance, a comprehensive, research-based program that supports systematic instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. For grades 6–12, our ELA curriculum features teacher-created units that are carefully aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards and designed to meet the diverse needs and interests of students. Across all levels, our curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, meaningful engagement, and a deep appreciation for literacy that prepares students for lifelong learning.
