Power of the Pen First in Region for 3rd Year in a Row!

The Brady Middle School Power of the Pen teams have done it again! At the Lake Erie Regional Tournament held this past weekend at Hudson Middle School, BMS received the Sweepstakes Trophy Winner for the highest combined scores for both teams for the third year in a row! Competing against 41 schools with 191 total writers in seventh and eighth grades, our 12 BMS writers had an outstanding showing in the nearly 600 total stories written. Seventh grader Cinyi Zhang placed First, with Sylvia Goshe placing Fourth out of 94 seventh graders, to receive top individual awards! Eighth grader Elizabeth Zaraa received a Ninth place individual award out of nearly 97 eighth graders. The seventh grade team took home the First Place trophy, with the eighth grade team bringing home the Second Place trophy in their respective divisions. Kudos also go out to 8th grader Violet Thorman for her Round One story, “Sweet Tooth Turned Sharp Tooth” from the District Tournament, earning a “Best of Round” Award.
Team members include eighth graders Elena Brateanu, Bennet Harvat, Indra Iyer, Violet Thorman, Beks Toth, and Elizabeth Zaraa. The seventh-grade team includes Kathryn Ghoul, Sylvia Goshe, Adriana Khater, Caroline Reidhead, Esme Yee, and Cinyi Zhang. Coaches are teachers Mat Cain, Sarah DiBenedetto, Betsey Lee, and Joe Paris. Next up is the State Tournament at Ashland University in May. Qualifying writers will be announced in the next few weeks
