Former New Directions Property Opportunity

Posted Date: 07/02/26 (02:05 PM)

Dear Orange Families and District Residents,

It is with much excitement that I am writing to inform you that the Orange City School District, as the governing body and fiscal agent of the Orange Community Education and Recreation department (“OCER”), has expressed interest in purchasing the land and buildings known as New Directions, formerly a residential addiction and recovery treatment facility located at 30800 Chagrin Boulevard here in Pepper Pike. The District has had a long standing positive relationship with New Directions, serving as the provider of classroom instruction for their patients for decades.

Crossroads Health, the owner of New Directions, decided to close the treatment facility effective June 30, 2026. Given this new development in the status of the property, it is in the best interest of the District and OCER to attempt to acquire it. Obtaining this property will create an exciting growth opportunity for future OCER programming, while giving the District options for future planning as well.

If the District is successful in negotiating a purchase agreement with Crossroads, the Board of Education will, of course, discuss said contracts and commitments during Board meetings which are open to the public. The plan is to acquire this with the intention of moving and expanding OCER services, including Art and Senior Center programming with potential for much more to be developed in collaboration with OCER leadership.

Please note that OCER does not rely on Orange Schools operating revenue, thus funds being sought via the upcoming Orange City School District’s Operating Levy this November will NOT be used as part of this acquisition. Feel free to contact Mr. Gary Platko, Orange Schools Treasurer/CFO at gplatko@orangecsd.org with questions about OCER budgets and accounting.

Opportunities that are both timely and cost-effective are rare, and I am very hopeful that we can successfully make this acquisition for the betterment of OCER, the District, and the entire community at large.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lynn Campbell
